Library Blog

Children learning how to read need opportunities to practice their burgeoning skills. For some, reading aloud to other people, even a parent or loved one, can be intimidating. This is especially true for children with reading difficulties, who can become self-conscious when being constantly corrected. Having a non-judgmental, friendly listener, such as a therapy animal, can be comforting and allow them to focus more on practicing their skills and building their confidence as independent readers.

New & Noteworthy

One Maryland One Book Logo
This fall, Anne Arundel County Public Library is again participating in One Maryland One Book, sponsored by the Maryland Humanities Council. In its seventh year, One Maryland One Book brings readers from across the state, of different backgrounds and communities, together to read and discuss the same book. This year, the book chosen is The Distance Between Us by Reyna Grande, a memoir of a young girl growing up in Mexico -- left behind when her parents have moved to the United States.
